Accounting for approximately 97.2 per cent of all enterprises, and responsible for over 5.5 million jobs in Viet Nam, MSMEs are key players in the Vietnamese economy. While MSMEs are recognized as a driver of economic growth, there is room for improvement in the MSME landscape, particularly for women and young women entrepreneurs.
To promote inclusive and sustainable MSME development, the APEC-Canada Growing Business Partnership (ACGBP) is working with local stakeholders in Viet Nam to deliver policy leadership activities aimed at improving the readiness of policy actors to implement gender-responsive MSME policies and programming. Such activities will include policy briefs on best practices for implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of gender-responsive and inclusive MSME policies, policy leadership workshops, and presentations on best gender practices.
Phase I of the APEC-Canada Growing Business Partnership in Viet Nam focused on capacity building by investing in start-up technology and innovation to make MSME growth more inclusive. Gender-inclusive programming worked to support women and girls in closing the gender gap in micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
This phase began in 2016 and concluded in May 2021.
The MSME Toolkit delivers practical ideas, addresses key challenges, and introduces relevant best practices on MSME business development to entrepreneurs in APEC developing economies through on-the-ground training with Canadian and local experts.
